'Heading For A Fall'

'Heading For A Fall'

I went to Leeds in 1991 to work with Dave Collins, a keyboard player who had been on tour with us.

He had the music ready when I arrived, I improvised a melody to it and wrote the beginning of the lyrics of ‘Heading For A Fall’. I stayed at his place for a few days. His girlfriend would cook shepherd’s pie, we’d go and have fish and chips with tea and milk at Dave parents eatery (I remember his mother calling me “hen” ). We’d walk around the beautiful streets of the old part of the city and visit the pubs where to my surprise the locals ordered several beers at a time just before closing time. I had had a short affair with a great drummer, also from Leeds, but I had realized from the beginning it wasn’t going anywhere. That’s what the lyrics of ‘Heading For A Fall’ are about.
