‘Lulu’s Song’, live at Forest National 2014, is now on YouTube!
Lulu was one of my ex-boyfriend’s mother. She didn’t like me very much because she found me too wild: I had lived in England, Mexico and the States, had come back broke with my little boy, wanted to sing more than anything and was struggling to make ends meet. I was also a few years older than her beloved only son and it didn’t quite match the future she had in mind for him. One day she tried to convince me that the woman’s liberation movement was a trap leading nowhere and that it would be wiser to fall into line. My ex-boyfriend’s father was a suicidal alcoholic artist and she seemed very unhappy to me. Resignation was not my thing. I wrote the lyrics of that song together with my Irish friend Una. Lulu had a good heart but had been wounded by life from the beginning.
